FIRE.228 Life Wealth

I’ve been thinking about wealth recently.

I was on a 2-week cruise to Iceland from Ireland.  There were 250+ passengers on the SilverSea Expedition ship who were getting out into the world–into an active lifestyle of exploring and cruising.

If you don’t know, SilverSea is a luxury cruise line.  My friends really enjoy these cruises, and I enjoy being with this selected family, so my wife and I often sail with them.

Aging

On the past 3 SilverSea cruises to Iceland, Australia, and New Zealand, it was clear that many people have enough wealth to pay for this luxury cruising environment.  Often, the passengers are 70+, even 80+, and I’d estimate 65+% have limited mobility.  This makes sense due to their age.

Of course, there is a significant number of “seasoned” passengers who have great mobility and motivation at this age.

Wealth Types

It really made me think about wealth and mobility.  It made me think about wealth in terms of financial assets versus other life assets–mobility, health, family/friends, enjoyment, adventure, and satisfaction.

I know people in the FI community who have not been able to amass a high net worth because of life situations or career fields.  Yet, ALL the people I’ve met in the FI community are very intentional (when I meet them, at that moment) and living a well-planned life stage.

Combining my thoughts on wealthy older people and less wealthy younger/middle-aging people, I’ve really started to see how Life Wealth (the abundance or plentifulness) of Life may be one of the most valuable resources one can attain.

What Matter Most?

Inverting: if you don’t have any money, your life may be less satisfying.  If you don’t have good health, your life may be a struggle.  If you don’t have any people in your life that you love, you may be isolated and without the multiplying effect of community (10 years ago, I may have never typed that last sentence).

Don’t forget about financial well-being.  But keep in mind, keep a focus on building up your Life Wealth.  Life Wealth will probably be a multi-faceted collection of assets all working together to increase the greatness of your life.

I didn’t know I was missing out on wealth in the past.  But adding some of these valuable variables to my life has been exponentially better.

Multiplying

I hope that I’m able to (continue to) share some of my Life Wealth with others so they can share theirs with others.

Hmmm, that was an interesting thought that came out of nowhere today.

    Excellent!
It’s awesome to hear your discovery while you were living in luxury.
I’m reminded of a book I recently read: “The Alchemist” by Paolo Coelho.
The main character travels all over the world seeking his “fortune”, following all kinds of wacky advice people give him along the way.

Spoiler alert: he ends up finding his true treasure (his true Life Wealth) close to where he started. Go figure!

Even though I just gave the ending away, this book is still worth reading.
Please keep sharing more on this topic – Life Wealth.

    Best,

    Vincent
