FIRE.245 Today is April

I recently had to sign a waiver.  I had to say that I was taking responsibility for my actions.

The activity was nothing big, just renting a bike to ride around Belgium a little (which is less of a panic-inducing, chaotic event like Amsterdam riding).

The act of signing the waiver included two items (not including reading the “responsibility” section): name and date.

I slapped down some quick, scribble-like signature, and then I got to the “date” line.  I was hurrying so those behind me could sign, so I decided the “date” was “April,” just April.

I truly had no idea what day of the week it was in the middle of the river cruise, nor did I have absolutely any idea of the actual numeric date.  Who in retirement knows what day number it is?  What are the odds of knowing?  At home, I can track the day of the week because we have a mostly consistent workout schedule.  But, on a river cruise, in Belgium I’d never take that bet.

To be honest, at home I have a better chance at knowing the day of the week than the month.  In Arizona, it is always sunny.  The only way I can tell the season is to touch the window glass.  Hot is winter, very hot is summer.  However, I usually know my workout for the day and the upcoming days.

Disoriented

We went from the European river cruise straight to a Caribbean Monsters of Rock Cruise.

Being in the western hemisphere did not help me track the day any better because of a lack of sleep and wall-to-wall music from 11a-1a across seven stages.  I could barely tell what day # of the cruise I was on.  Was it day 3 or 4?

I could be all philosophical and say it may be because I was in the moment on the MORC, but it was really the fact that it doesn’t matter to me.  My life is not bound by any sort of numeric calendar or day.  Life is good, REAL good.

A Little Bit of Correlation

Though, while in South Beach, Miami for two days, I was able to grasp the day of the week a little better because Friday was busy and Saturday was much busier.  Maybe I just need some frame of reference.  Maybe, “it depends.”

Going forward, I think I’ll be happy to keep things simple.  I will just say “today is April” and be done with it.  Or whatever month it is.

That’s how I roll.  Totally different from the common folk.
