I know I shared our new home move, blah, blah, blah.
I know that feels like I’m bragging, but to me it is more about the realization that we were under-living. (There were some HOGs considerations involved).
The previous post was also a nod to others in the (frugal) FI community sharing their home improvements.
I used to think I was busy enough. I felt that I was organized and had a great process for my weekly flow. I definitely had a lot of “I’m too retired for that” action mentality.
I have mentioned that I’ve notice that staying in the same groove too long can develop into a rut. Well, “Hell YES,” rut busted, BIG time in our new home.
Oh, back onto topic track…
So, in true project manager fashion, I create a project plan/spreadsheet for our home change. Many tabs with different activities and tracking items.
I’ve used my Apple watch “create reminder for ABC” and “create reminder for 912am for XYZ.” At this point, I have over 140 Apple reminders (don’t forgets). I also have hundreds of previous items in my Google Tasks list (my main Don’t Forget list).
I’ve been organizing activities and actions into groups so I can try to optimize my efforts. These happen at our new home and our old home. They even happen at my mom’s old home, where we still have activities to perform.
I’ve noticed over the past 6 weeks or so that I’ve been VERY/extremely organized at listing items and getting things completed. Often, the tasks are to start something and wait for others to contact me or complete on their end. Being organized has helped keep all of these things flowing towards completion.
I am getting so much more done each day than I could have imagined. I used to think “3 things per day” was a nice. Full, accomplished day. Now it can be 5-8 things, with different organizations, locations, or people.
I am so much busier. I am enjoying it so much. I am getting shit done, left and right.
I’ve noticed that I’ve been in a flow state so many times in the past month and a half. I almost never have enough activity underway to focus on that I get into a flow state. Not true right now.
Even when we went to San Diego and then to Hollywood for a concert, I was in a flow state in the morning before doing “LA things,” then mid afternoon/evening working on things I needed to get done. It was a great little (productive) vacation that has paid off nicely in our new home.
I still have things to do, contact, and schedule the following: handyman, electrician, plumber, landscape, spa mover, financial custodian, etc. Yet, I’m still making progress, and it feels good.
I forget sometimes that we have the HUGEST advantage of enjoying this move because we are FIREd and we have all the time in every day to dedicate to the move process as we see fit. What a luxury.
I do feel sad that my mom can’t see our new home. She would have loved it. She would have told us to “absolutely buy it, if you love it.”
I often think about waiting too long for this life. Even when you (I) think we’re living our best life, are we not letting something slide? Are we not delaying something that it would be wise® to do now? Full Speed FI to me is about living life to its (your) fullest, intentionally now.
Plan, live, monitor, live some more, repeat.
I can now see that being extra busy and having so much to do and complete can be a wonderful thing.
