FIRE.254 I’m in the middle of something

Most of the time, my wife asks me something or to do something; I tend to say, “I’m in the middle of something.”  I heard it in a hotel once while watching King of Queens, and that Kevin was flexing in front of the mirror.    It seemed so perfect in my mind–being self-absorbed in a hilarious way.

Update.  I wanted to see if I could find the clip as I remembered it.  Well, of course the interweb had the exact clip I remember listed first (above), but Google also mentioned that it’s a recurring statement in the show.  That makes me happy because it recurs in our home all the time.

What’s my point/thought?

I find great satisfaction in being able to assign my time to my interests.  I love not having a job or boss dictating my schedule.

Of course, I help and do things at home, etc.  Yes, I often organize external (to me) items into a structure so I can maintain some time-selfishness.

When I’ve talked about “be a little selfish” in the past, I don’t know if I was clear that it was time/energy selfish (centering/centered) and not ignoring others and their requests/needs.  It was scheduling.

Why am I writing this now?  I am 15 days into this month and the time has FLOWN by.  There has so much life stuff going on that my days have been filled with actions–many more than 3 things per day, repeatedly–and plenty of low-sleep nights.  I always sleep great and get 8-9 hours to recover from my workouts.  Yet lately, I’ve been waking at 3, 4, or 5 am and not being able to go back to sleep because my mind turns on.  I thought this was because we returned from a trip to Europe, but that was 3 weeks ago.  The issue is activities.

Zone(s)

I recall a couple of years ago that I wrote about how I noticed I was “in the zone” all day.  I was in a total flow state that day fixing my blog website.

I’ve noticed the past week that I’ve repeatedly been in a flow state with house things.  It feels good, but it is shocking to me that I’m waking before 5 am and often on my PC (not all day) until after 6 pm.  That is unheard of for me.  I am normally tired of PC-ing by 4 pm or so.

Busy is good if there is a goal or purpose.  I have that, and I love it.
